A primer on breast implants

Tired of not filling out swimsuits and T-shirts to her satisfaction, 32-year-old Kristin Brackemyre decided it was time to get some serious breasts. But before that could happen, she knew she had to do some serious homework.

She and her lawyer boyfriend researched breast-augmentation surgery as if they were preparing a case for trial. After three years of contemplation and scrutiny, Brackemyre got saline breast implants in August from Dr. Joseph Grzeskiewicz at La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre in California. Today, she wears a C-cup bra and describes her surgery and her new figure as 'amazing'.

"I feel so much better about putting on clothes, wearing bras and just the fact that I now need a bra," she says. "They (her new breasts) just make me feel better about myself."

Plastic surgeons wish all breast augmentation patients would be such diligent consumers.

Lip implant surgery - in just fifteen minutes

According to a report in The Sunday Times, the implants, made from the same material as breast implants can be inserted into the lips in just fifteen minutes. The new implants, called PermaLip, cost between £2,000 and £2,500, and are marketed at patients who either want to boost the size of their lips, or whose lips have narrowed with age.

"The PermaLip implants are soft and malleable," says Patrick Mallucci, a plastic surgeon with London Plastic Surgery Associates "so the look and feel is entirely natural and wouldn’t hinder any activity such as kissing or eating."

Surgeons say that inserting the implants is a simple operation that can be carried out under local anaesthetic. The surgeon makes two small incisions in the corners of the mouth, and the implant is passed through a tunnel in the lip.

Facelift for city theatre is delayed

Refurbishment work was supposed to be completed on the Theatre Royal by the end of January, but bosses today said the wraps would come off the theatre around February 17.

Work to bring the ageing exterior back to life began in October.

A year of hope, a year to look forward to…

The past 12 months have witnessed India's travel universe register some notable success and be dogged, if only, by the usual suspects of bureaucratic lethargy and infrastructure bottlenecks. World attention and domestic ambitions, however, promise to make 2007 a year of interesting trends and continual growth across all sectors, finds Bhisham Mansukhani

India's tourism and travel trade has never had it good. While the immense potential has stayed intact for the better part of this decade, its realisation is far from done, ensuring that India retains its tag of massive underperformer for another 12 months.

That said, the vital signs of a build up are mushrooming across sectors that come under the broad ambit of this near pervasive industry. To begin with, inbound tourism continues its steady, albeit modest, climb which although remains abysmal in context of its South and South-east Asian peers, is promising in context of the infrastructure bottlenecks the country is buffeted with.
